In the presence of others, do you take the high road of authenticity or gauge how you show up dependent upon on how the others appear? This is sometimes referred to as peer pressure. And you thought that only applied to children, especially teenagers. Well it does not and guess what, the same small children you are saying this to are watching you and how you show up in the company of others.
Do not compromise your values for the sake of belonging. Isn’t that what we tell our children? Be a leader not a follower, and there we go following the gang because everyone is doing it. As we get older our gang is broader and is often influenced by what we see on television and what we hear in the music. The community at large becomes our gang, the people we hang out with. In this process do you still honor your truth? Or are you following the crowds, the same crowd we warn our children about?
Actions are always much louder than our words. Our children are watching. How we show up! Are your actions consistent with your values? How do you show up? Is the environment the one who sets the tone of what is fashionable and the latest trend? Are your actions consistent with your words?
Is honesty an admirable value? Yet you lie to others often, in the company of your children? What do you think they are learning, that it is okay to lie some of the time, because they hear you doing it? Well if this is how you show up, please do not chastise the children for repeating what you are teaching. Do you holler, scream and curse others when you are upset? But insist upon spanking the child that does the same as you?
How do you show up for yourself? Do you compromise because you feel intimidated by titles or status? Regardless of the position in life we are each the same, a child of God.
Respect yourself and show up as the real you all the time!
